The Day of the Dead is the fifth episode of the second series of BBC's Atlantis and the eighteenth episode of the overall series. The episode was written by head writer Howard Overman and directed by Declan O'Dwyer.

As the dust settles, the gang find themselves dispersed around the ancient necropolis. And they soon realize they are not alone - the space is crawling with a magical army of the undead. The race is on to find Jason before he falls prey to the flesh-eating monsters.

Elsewhere in the cave system, as Jason battles for his life, he finds an unlikely ally in the mysterious Medea. But can he really trust her?

A badly wounded Pasiphae awakes and summons the undead using a spell. Meanwhile, the group consisting of Hercules, Pythagoras, Ariadne, Orpheus, Diagoras and Eurydice is lost in the catacombs. They run into Dion's corpse, now resurrected as an undead, who bites Diagoras' arm. Hercules stabs Dion, but cannot kill him. More undead arrive and the party flees.

Diagoras develops a fever which grows stronger. During the next night, Hercules, who is on watch, falls asleep. Diagoras rises as an undead and viciously attacks the others, biting Eurydice before he is stabbed by Orpheus. Pythagoras works out that undead bites transform the victim into an undead. Ariadne is worried about an injury, but it is only a cut. However, Eurydice soon dies of her bite.

While Jason holds off the hordes of undead, Hercules destroys the stone tablet and defeats the undead. Their victory is short-lived as Medea stabs Ariadne with a dagger before fleeing.
